Version 1.04 - July 28, 2011

Users can gradually create a list of Friendly networks to which they don’t wish to limit data access in roaming. Friendly networks can be especially useful to users of mobile virtual operators, but also come in handy for identifying certain advantageous data roamings.

Applications not listed in the main window in the Standard mode are collectively operated under the Other data item. In the Extended mode, the applications are added to the list in the main window automatically upon the first request for data access and its data access can be set individually.

Why does the data connection icon blink occasionally, even though according to my settings, Roaming Guard is supposed to block access by all applications? - August 20, 2010

Based on a system event, Roaming Guard finds that a data connection is being opened and, according to user settings, it will immediately disconnect. For a moment, the icon of active connection appears, but there will be no data transmission. In this regard, it is important to beware of some operators who charge a minimum fee for a connection even without data transmission.

Bug in version 1.03 - August 10, 2010

Mail for Exchange item does not display on the main screen and corresponding data transfer is not blocked on the Nokia devices that have Mail for Exchange built into the email client (6710 Navigator, 6730 classic, E52, E55, E72, E75, N86 8MP). Use the default system option Email > Mail for Exchange > Options > Settings > When to sync > Sync while roaming - No. Bug will be corrected in the next version.

Initial release - March 23, 2010

Coincidentally, Roaming Guard is being introduced to the market at a time when the European Commission has just issued a regulation stipulating limits for accessing the internet from mobile phones. The development of mobile phones creates situations where fees for mobile data in roaming can easily reach amounts comparable to a flight ticket for a dream holiday. Unlike the directive approach of the European Commission, Roaming Guard allows you the freedom of choice between data you want available and that you choose not to receive.

In the initial version of Roaming Guard, you can enable or disable access to MMS, electronic mail, web surfing, Mail for Exchange, Ovi Maps and other data. We'll soon extend this support to other commonly used applications, provide a list of access points, or possibly implement data limits. Another option is to expand the automatic management of calls, where some calls can be refused in roaming, possibly sending an SMS as a notification. Our basic requirement for the simplest possible user environment remains.

This initial release of Roaming Guard is localized to main European languages, such as English, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish and to the Central European languages. Further versions may be localized more widely into Nordic languages, such as Danish, Finnish and Swedish, as well as Greek and Turkish.

The application is released in two versions, Roaming Guard eX (with a right to upgrade to any future version) and Roaming Guard (without the free upgrade rights). Roaming Guard eX can be purchased for 3.60 € at share-it! and Handango, while Roaming Guard may be purchased for a lower price at Ovi Store.
